Louise Ashcroft

Peripatetic Residency, February - May 2012.

Curated by Squid & Tabernacle as part of 'The Geography of the Artist's Studio'.

I am interested in shaping a walk by passing it through the minds of artists in order to create a route which traverses myriad sites and is in flux between real space and imaginary space. I will respond to the situations and places I discover en route and will invite responses from artists, which will further guide my walk. Artists involved so far are: Helene Kazan, David Snoo Wilson, Sally Madge, Claire Blundell Jones, Gabriel Birch, George Major, Liane Lang, Fritha Jenkins.

The walk will be presented as a publication and a walking event.

Some images of the project so far below:

-----------------------

Electrocuted frogs killed on their passage between the pond and the field. Whitton, Shropshire - image sent to George Major

George Major sent me a text recounting his search for the river Quaggy in South London. I will retrace the Quaggy or perhaps transpose his descriptions onto a different but related location. I sent George's text to Fritha Jenkins as a starting point for an amphibious car we will be making together as part of the project.

Evidence of somebody walking through a wall before bricking it back up. Norquest Industrial Estate, Birstall, West Yorkshire - image sent to Claire Blundell Jones.

Claire Blundell Jones sent me a drawing in response:

Concrete Boat, Timber Beach Road, Sunderland - image sent to David Snoo Wilson

David Snoo Wilson responded by telling me about the sound mirrors in Denge, Kent. See here. I will research them further and may visit.
