Hay House (for the cows), 2004

An installation at Godstow Nunnery Ruins in Oxfordshire, which I made for a series of site-specific projects organised by the Oxford-based curatorial group Projection.

I built a barn out of hay for the cows that grazed on the land. The idea was to give these animals the choice between two fundamental needs: food and shelter. They could either shelter in the hay house or eat it. When I returned later that evening it had been mostly eaten.
